What to do, step by step
- Install the official Alipay app
Find Alipay in the Apple App Store or Google Play. Check that you are installing the official app, then open it.
- Sign up with your phone number
Choose your country code, enter a mobile number that receives SMS, and follow Alipay’s on-screen verification prompts. An overseas number can work.
- Open “Bank Cards”
In Alipay, tap “Me”, then look for “Bank Cards”. Menu names and placement may vary with your app version.
- Add your international card
Tap “Add Bank Card”, “Add Now”, or the + icon, then follow the prompts. Enter sensitive card details only inside the official Alipay app.
- Finish any verification
If Alipay or your bank requests identity or card verification, complete it inside their official app. Check that the card now appears in Alipay.
- Know how to pay
At a shop that accepts Alipay, you can scan the merchant’s code or let the cashier scan your payment code. Review each amount before confirming.
